Overview

The John Henry Group is an integrated service provider working predominantly in the public sector and blue chip private markets, with an increasing involvement into private and developing markets including residential, education and commercial development. Providing a complete end to end service of infrastructure including telecoms, highways, civil engineering, power networks and much more.

The old John Henry Group website was starting to show its age from a web design perspective and required modernising to bring it up to date.  At the same time the group wanted to take on a content review exercise to make sure all areas of the site were clear and well signposted for all user types, it was felt some information has been lost on the old website and the information architecture was not as good as it could be.

John Henry are a very well known Cambridge based company, what is less well known is the company have a national reach and offices all across the UK, they also carry out projects all over the UK and as part of this project it was important to get this message across to any users who visit the website.

The new website needed to deliver on a number of key items including:

  • Improved navigation and site search
  • Show the national coverage of the company
  • Implement a modern new design including rich video content
  • Built in WordPress with a simple admin area
  • Target multiple stakeholders

Our Solution

Douglass Digital were pleased to be appointed out of all the Cambridge agencies approached for this website project.  The project was started with a number of workshops with the core marketing team and then this was opened up to the wider John Henry team,  a member from each department across the UK got involved to help review the current site and take part in the workshops to help form a plan how the new website should look and work.

Many staff felt some of the messages were not as clear as they could be and some content relevant to their part of the business was not always easy to find, through these content workshops the team were able to arrange this in a much better structure.

The new design includes a very simple navigation with three main sections that was born out of the scoping workshops, Expertise, About John Henry Group and National Coverage. The national coverage section includes an interactive map to show the reach of the group making it very prominent at the top of the site. Another key area of the site is the careers page, many users come to look for employment within the organisation to this along with latest news and the hub login have been kept as a second menu at the top for ease of use.

Each page was designed and placed on InVison so we could test and gather feedback from the team at John Henry, this also allowed us to make any amendments quickly and easily.

The site was built and maintained on WordPress CMS system, allowing for easy content management and a future proof solution for the group.

We put out a tender late last year (2017) looking for help to restore life to our company website and we got quite a few entries, but after several interviews Douglass Digital proved they would be the best organisation for the task. It was a great decision, we’re really happy with what Charlie, Alex and their team have delivered and really valued their help throughout the process. They were able to offer some great feedback and suggestions to what our initial vision was and helped us to develop something we’re really proud of and represents the professionalism of our business.
