Institute of Hospitality | Membership Web Design

Overview

The Institute of Hospitality is a registered charity and the professional membership body for managers and aspiring managers working and studying in the hospitality, leisure and tourism industry. Established in 1938, IOH have members working in all industry sectors in over 100 countries around the world with over 10,000 hospitality professionals.

Their existing website solution was over nine years old, built on a proprietary CMS (content management system) that had come to the end of its natural life in terms of design and functionality. IOH use the Oomi CRM system to manage memberships and wanted to offer a seamless integration between the two systems for members and streamline administration functions.

IOH went to market to engage with a new supplier who specialise in membership website design and CRM integration, they needed an agency that could build an engaging new membership platform for their members.

Due to the restrictions and cost associated with using a proprietary CMS system it was important the new website was built on a truly open source solution.

The new website needed to deliver on a number of key items including:

  • Improved navigation and site search
  • Streamlined members sign up process
  • Intuitive membership area
  • Events with online booking and ticket management
  • Two way seamless integration and sync with Oomi CRM

Our Solution

Douglass Digital were pleased to be appointed for this exciting project and to bring our membership and integration experience to the table.

The project was started with a detailed scoping exercise that included sending a survey out to all members and staff, we also had an option for anyone who visited the site to leave feedback. It was important for us that we understood how all stakeholders felt about the current website and what they were hoping to see from any new system put in place. This, combined with scoping with the IOH team gave us real insight on the project and what needed to be done.

Based on this information the Douglass Digital team set to work producing wireframes and mockups on what the new site could look like. This was a fantastic exercise that allowed us to learn a lot and really refine what was required.

The new website offers the following exciting features all delivered through a modern responsive design for the Institute

  • Knowledge Library
  • Member registration with LinkedIn signup and CRM integration
  • Event management with online bookings payments all integrated with Oomi CRM
  • Endorsed Programmes
  • Fellows membership search
  • Built with a systems rules engine allowing rules to be applied to restrict or target content
  • Online shop and payments with CRM integration

All of this has been achieved using the WordPress CMS system, allowing for easy content management and a future proof solution for the Institute.

Douglass Digital are now moving onto the next exciting part of this project to deliver a full CPD (Continuing Professional Development) system built directly into WordPress and integrated with Oomi CRM.
