The British and Irish Orthoptic Society (BIOS) is the professional membership body for Orthoptists founded in 1937. Orthoptists are registered Allied Health Professionals regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the UK and CORU will be the regulator in the Republic of Ireland. With around 1400 members allied health care practitioners who specialise in disorders of eye movements and diagnostic procedures related to disorders of the eye and the visual system.
The existing BIOS website had been taken offline due to unforeseen circumstances with the previous supplier, as a result of this BIOS were without a web presence and in a desperate need to get a digital presence back online as quickly as possible.
BIOS met with a number of potential suppliers to look at the new website project and needed an agency with solid membership experience. After the supplier selection process, Douglass Digital were appointed to build a new membership website for BIOS.
As the current situation meant BIOS had no web presence at all it was decided to spilt the project into two phases, the first was to get a basic information site up as soon as possible and the second was to follow up with the comprehensive membership and CPD platform.
The new website needed to deliver on a number of key items including:
- New Logo and brand guidelines
- A new information site delivered very quickly
- Membership areas with detailed membership signup and renewal process including different payment workflows
- Members CPD platform
- Intuitive membership area
- Members public and private groups with document functionally
- Events with online booking and ticket management
